If you’re in the area surrounding Porto Istana, another top beach to explore during your holiday in Sardinia is Spiaggia del Dottore (the Doctor’s Beach). It is located less than 2 kilometers north-east of the center of town. It’s a perfectly shaped lick of fine white sand with a length of about 65 meters and a width of about 15 meters at most. The beach faces east, looking out over the glassy waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, with breathtaking views of Isola Piana and the spectacular Isola Tavolara. The beach is backed by silent rocky hills that will cast a shade over the beach once the sun starts to set behind you. At sundown, the scattered rocks on the south side of Spiaggia del Dottore will turn a deep shade of red. Note that this beach has no facilities besides a small parking area on the south side that offers space for just a handful of cars. Your best bet would be to go on foot if you’d like to spend the day here, and to leave your vehicle near the beach of Sas Enas Appara (Le Tre Sorelle), located about 500 meters south-west of Spiaggia del Dottore. Walking to the beach will take you about 20 to 30 minutes. Do bring some food and cool drinks, as there are no facilities on the beach. As Dottore requires some effort to reach, the beach is hardly ever crowded, but don’t be surprised by the occasional boat or dinghy that comes by to enjoy this little sugary slice of Italian paradise!
