About Cala Sisine

Cala Sisine is a gorgeous cove located in east Sardinia, about 17 kilometers north of Baunei, and 11 kilometers south of the small seaside town named Cala Gonone. Together with Cala Luna, Cala Biriola, Cala Mariolu and Cala GoloritzĂ©, it is a top contender on the shortlist of must-see beaches of Sardinia. Many tourists from all over the world travel to the jagged limestone coast of the Golfo di Orosei every year to explore these scenic coves. The unspoilt beach, tucked between the spectacular cliffs of the Serra Ovra, has a length of over 200 meters, and near both its edges it can get up to 100 meters wide. Compared to most coves on the rugged Orosei coast, that’s an unusually large lick of sand. Its sands and seabed consist of a mix of white grains with pebbles in various sizes. Cala Sisine faces due east, featuring stunning views over the deep blue Tyrrhenian Sea which stretches out all the way to the coast of west Italy. If you could actually see the Italian coast, you’d get a glimpse of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius, an active volcano that destroyed the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum in 79 AD. As an addition to the fabulous scenery, the cove is backed by Codula Sisine, a deep valley where a river cuts through. The river, which has its origins on the Golgo Plateau in the Supramonte mountain range, runs dry in summer. During the winter rains, the stream swells significantly. There is a small freshwater pond behind the beach, where you can rinse the sand off your feet. Behind the pond, you’ll find restaurant Su Coile, where you can enjoy some food and refreshments while enjoying the stunning views across the valley. Expect prices to be a bit steep here, even for a bottle of water, as the restaurant’s goods have to be transported to by boat from the nearby villages.
