Ira beach (Spiaggia Ira) is well known by celebrities all over the world, and was named after the actress Ira von Furstenberg. In fact, the beach owes its name to the nearby villa of the famous actress. The beach is located between the Gulf of Porto Rotondo and Cugnana, near the small headlands of Punta Nuraghe, in north-east Sardinia. Ira beach is the main beach of Porto Rotondo, and also happens to be its longest with a length of about 200 meters. It’s about 25 meters wide on average. It is located 450 meters west of the smaller Spiaggia Rudargia. Both beaches have sugary white sands and clear blue waters, surrounded by stray rocks and typical Mediterranean greenery.
Spiaggia Ira faces north-east, offering marvelous vistas of the Porto Rotondo bay backed by Isola Soffa 5 kilometers off the Punta Nuraghe coast. You’ll likely spot plenty of pleasure yachts big and small sailing in and out of the marinas of both Porto Rotondo and Portisco during summer. Spiaggia Ira features plenty of services: there is a bar and a restaurant, a nearby hotel, and in the vicinity you’ll find several diving schools. Sailing, windsurfing, and other water sports equipment can be rented on-site. Ira beach is well suited for families with children – waters are shallow here – and for people looking for a chance to relax, or snorkel.
