About Cala Fuili

a picture of Cala Fuili near Cala Gonone in East Sardinia Italy
A view from the sea: Cala Fuili, tucked in the rolling hills of East Sardinia.

You’ll find the beautiful cove of Cala Fuili (Spiaggia di Cala Fuili) just three kilometers south of the center of the seaside village named Cala Gonone, in the province of Nuoro, the provincial capital of the untamed central area of East Sardinia. It’s one of those coves near the Gulf of Orosei that is actually reachable by car. The beach has a length of about 100 meters and faces east and it offers extensive views over the Tyrrhenian Sea, the wooded hills and dramatic cliffs of Parco Nazionale del Golfo di Orosei e del Gennargentu, a popular national park that’s home to Punta La Marmora, the highest peak in Sardinia, and the rugged Gennargentu mountain range.

Facilities

Cala Fuili has no facilities, so you may want to bring a beach chair and something for shade. A light parasol will do. The beach is sandy with small white pebbles around the water edge, so bring a pair of slippers or beach shoes. There isn’t a beach bar either, you’ll want to bring some food and drinks. Cala Fuili is one of the best beaches of East Sardinia, therefore the beach can get rather busy during high season, so it’s best to go there early if you can, preferably before 9 AM. Photographers may appreciate the fact that at Cala Fuili in June, the sun rises at approximately 05:50 AM, and dawn begins at 05:15 AM – just in case you were wondering…

Activities

Activities at Cala Fuili include some light snorkeling around the rocks, swimming in the crystal-clear warm water, and climbing – if you’re up for it (and well prepared of course!). The area of Cala Fuili is a climbers paradise as you can start climbing right off the beach. You’ll likely spot a few free climbers scaling the steep walls of the canyon bordering the beach. Lastly, if you’d like to take the 3.5-kilometer walk from Cala Fuili to Cala Luna, the hiking route is well signposted.
